Set Your Goals Music

Julie is a certified musician/music lover. She plays the piano, the guitar and the violin marvelously, plus she sings like a nightingale and is a talented songwriter. In fact, Julie is deeply in love with music such that music has crept into almost every aspect of her life. She can only study if she’s incessantly listening to her Ipod. She is inseparable with her earphones—and she even sets her goals music.

Set goals with music? That’s right. It’s part of Music therapy. And I’m not kidding here—there is such a thing as music therapy. So what is music therapy and how do you set your goals music? Here are a few pointers:

Music therapy is the set use of music and music-related strategies to aid and motivate a person to achieve specific, nonmusical goals. Music therapy is geared towards effecting change in the cognitive, physical, communication, social and emotional skills of a person by altering unproductive learning patterns.

Music therapy makes use of the appeal and therapeutic characteristics of music (it captivates and maintains attention, structures time, sets up a social context, encourages movement, taps into memory and emotion, and is success oriented). It does this to establish the difference between isolation and interaction and is proven to be most helpful in situations such as depression, anger, pain, autism, stress, grief, loss, time management, motivation, growth, change, procrastination and improving communication.

• Research suggests that music can increase patient’s motivation and positive emotions.

• Music therapy tools include.

  1. Affirmation – an integration of words, rhythm and melody that gives the person the ability to think positively by eliminating barriers to prosperity, decrease stress and generate pathways to love and confidence.
  2. Mind quieting – helps you gain control of your thoughts, and thus maintain your control on your life.
  3. Breathing – breath is life, its depth, smoothness, sound and rate mirror your mood.
  4. Mantras – their magical sounds stimulate, activate, motivate and rejuvenate.
  5. Chanting – it strengthens the mind and develops concentration, patience and determination.
  6. Toning – it is the basic process of letting go.

• How to set your goals music?

  1. Find a 10-15-minute worth of songs that match your present mood.
  2. Find another 10-15-minute musical selection that mirrors your present internal state and the state you want to achieve.
  3. Find a 10 to 15 musical selection of songs that match the desired state you want to achieve.
  4. Record these and go over the musical selections as many times as possible.

That’s how music can help you set your goals. Goal setting can be as simple as setting your goals music but it boils down to utilizing the great power of music not just to entertain but to heal the mind, body and soul. And, remember, you don’t have to be a musician or a music lover to practice music therapy or to set your goals music — the only criterion is that you have this great burning desire to achieve success and make the most of your life.

Feng Shui Office

When I finally decided that it’s time to transfer my office, I knew I had to call Maya first. Not only is Maya a real estate agent (which means I can avail of discounts for the office), but she is also a pure blooded Chinese woman who is an expert in feng shui and feng shui office arrangements.

Yes, I believe in feng shui—so shoot me! But there’s nothing wrong if I follow a few dos and dont’s in my office—it won’t cost me anything if the feng shui office does work or not, right? Not only did Maya tell me about feng shui in choosing the office, she also told me about how to keep the mood in the office conducive for working.

So here are a few Feng Shui Office dos and Taboos straight from Maya:

• Pick an office or work space located in a prosperous neighborhood.

• The entrance to the premise should be inviting rather than ordinary.

• The corner, with the entrance on a diagonal to the corner itself is the best site for a building.

• Use the feng shui bagua to order the interior layout of the premise.

• To have a command position, sit in the corner farthest from the entrance.

The Mind Power

Like any other human being, my life isn’t always sunshine and blue skies. I’ve had my share of problems, both emotional and not-so emotional. Every time I start feeling low though, I let my mind do the talking so that I can get out of the rut. But how does the mind power function? Well, it’s like this:

• The seat of our cognition is the brain. Since this is the case, the mind power controls our thoughts. When we think negatively all the time, the mind makes these negative concepts come true. These thoughts increase in strength and they begin to affect our attitudes, our perceptions and our behavior. When we think positively, the mind does the same. For good things to happen in our lives we have to constantly visualize mental images that are also good.

• The mind also governs our emotions. To avoid feeling down when life takes a hit on us, we must affirm to ourselves that troubles will come to pass. These assertions will help us feel more positive and more able to face life’s challenges.

• The mind can make us sick and can also cure our pain, physical or emotional. Our emotions manifest themselves in physical ways. For example, when we are depressed, the body reacts in manners that would correspond to the depression. Hence we may lack appetite due to the sadness and eventually we might develop ulcer from not eating. Similarly, the mind can convince a sick person that he is getting better. Someone who is feverish may then be cured of the symptoms if truly believes that he isn’t sick.

• Finally, when we have things that we need to accomplish and find ourselves unable to do so, the mind power dictate to us our goal. We can do this through the help of concentration that is, focusing our thoughts, thinking of our goal and visualizing it. Afterwards, we should come up with a specific plan on how to go about achieving the said goal. The plan naturally has to be based on what’s tangible and real otherwise, all our visualization and planning will be in vain. Then we can start working on our plans. It will take effort on our part, but we need to commit to our memory that in the end, our effort will pay.

So are you feeling as if you are in a rut these days? Do you lack sleep due to vehement worries? Perhaps, you still cannot figure out how to attract that particularly hard to pin down goal. Or maybe you are in deep pain. If any of these are true to you, remember that the mind has the incredible power to change things. You can train yourself to not carry so much emotional baggage or have so many negative perceptions in your life. Think mental positive! BE mental positive! You’ll feel a lot better, you’ll see.

Motivation Theories – How is Motivation Hatched?

Motivation Theories

Monica, Elaine and Koreena became affiliated with the Psychology Society for different reasons. For Monica, it was because it’s what is expected of overachievers like her. As the achiever in her batch, she constantly needs to be on top of grades, as well as extracurricular activities. For Elaine, the Psychology Society has been her whole life—even with all the controversies that surrounded last year’s administration of which she is a part of. And for Koreena, the Psychology Society was the more risk-free and less time-consuming organization.

The three ladies each joined for different motivations. So, how exactly does motivation begin? There are a number of motivation theories which explain how and why a person is motivated. Here are a few of these motivation theories:

Acquired Needs Theory states that motivation is based on the human nature to seek for power, achievement or affiliation.

Affect Perseverance, like belief perseverance, explains that motivation continues even if there is invalidation of the original cause of the motivation.

Attitude-Behavior Consistency tells us that we are motivated when there is parallelism between our attitude and the behavior.

Attribution Theory explains motivation as the human need to attribute to causes that support our ego.

Who is Anthony Robbins?

Anthony Robbins

My 7- and 6-year-old brothers, Anthony and Robin, were once again wreaking havoc in our home as they insisted that Fluffy, our cat, was an incarnation of some god and, thus, we need to give Fluffy all sort of offerings to appease him. Anthony and Robin were busy foraging for shoes, vegetables, Seline’s collection of DVDs, my Abnormal Psychology books, and dad’s golf clubs. Mom had enough when the boys began to throw away her collection of angel figurines, because the boys said the figurines were idolatrous.

“Anthony! Robin! Stop this nonsense or else no dessert for both of you!” my mom bellowed.

Anthony…Robin. There’s something about these names….

And then it hit me! The Internet article I read yesterday! It was about Anthony Robbins! What poked me to read that article was my astonishment of how Anthony Robbins, the co-star of Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black in my favorite romantic comedy, Shallow Hal, is now a best-selling self-help author and motivational speaker! Here are some of the highlights:

Anthony “Tony” Robbins was born on February 29, 1960, in California. His parents divorced when he was 7 years old.

• In 1994, a medical checkup revealed that Anthony Robbins has an adenoma that became infarcted several years earlier. Because of this, his growth hormone is higher than the average adult of his age. This later on manifested in a disease called acromegaly which explains his growth spurts and his large hand and feet.

Anthony Robbins divorced Becky, his wife of 15 years, in 2001. In June of the same year he married Bonnie Humphrey. Anthony Robbins met both his wives at seminars he was hosting.

Anthony Robbins became determined to reroute his life after a low-point where he was struggling to pay his bills, became overweight, and ultimately LOST.

• Robbins did not only change his life but also developed a system to change the lives of others. His neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is the core of his current philosophy. His popular motivational technique is “neuroassociative conditioning”.

Anthony Robbins delivers his message through motivational books, audio programs, seminars, coaching and philanthropic work he and his companies engage in. “Unlimited Power: The New Science of Personal Achievement” and “Awaken the Giant Within” are popular self-help books where he teaches the reader techniques to gain success, overcome fear, improve relationships and be a catalyst for lasting change.

This is the gist of who Anthony Robbins is. And, at the state of the world today, we need more Anthony Robbins. That is, men who work to change their lives yet do not stop there, as they also work to help change the lives of others. Men like Anthony Robbins tell us that the decision to change our lives is ours alone. As what Anthony Robbins said, “The only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment.”
