Everyone anticipates blockbuster Saturday – especially when it is Ernie’s turn to pick the films. Ernie simply has the talent to choose not-so-ordinary-flicks and true to his description, he did not fail us when last Saturday he decided on The Secret as our movie for the night.
The Secret movie was so good that we had to watch it thrice in a row. But what is the film all about?
• The Secret movie is about an idea that has been circulating around the world for ages and this idea is the law of attraction. When the power of this law was discovered, people who were in authority tried to control it. But great and famous individuals got around such control through hiding this secret law of attraction in their masterpieces and in literature, which experts later unraveled.
• The Secret tells viewers, in detail, how to control the law of attraction in order to accumulate wealth, recover or prevent diseases and ultimately, become successful in life.
• The film also informs us of our power to create our reality by modifying our mindset. According to those who practice the law of attraction, when we have clear intentions coupled with consistent action geared toward these intentions, we are encouraged to achieve our SMART goals.
• All of us use the law of attraction on a daily basis but many times we do it without necessarily noticing that we are doing it. Our thinking and our beliefs attract certain things, either good or bad, to our lives. For example, when we truly believe that we will be given a particularly elusive research grant, our thoughts tend to influence our behavior and thus in the end we act in ways that are directed at our craving.
• If we want to get the life that we really yearn for, we can ask the universe for it and the universe will provide us with the answer, which is generally aligned with our yearnings.
• We should visualize whatever it is that we want and take to heart this vision for it to materialize in reality.
• All of these however would not happen unless we have gratitude. We should thank life and its co-conspirators for the things we have been given. A grateful soul with a grateful heart is always blessed with more.
Putting it simply, The Secret movie, which is now my favorite, tells us that the law of attraction can be summarized by Henry Ford’s words “whether you think you can or you can’t, either way you are right”.
Have you seen The Secret? Have you discovered the secret the movie offers?

“Am I depressed?” This is the question that sad people may ask themselves when they feel at loss as to what they can do about it. Sadness, however, is a normal feeling. Even overwhelming sadness is standard to someone who has just experienced the death of a loved one. Sadness though becomes abnormal when it comes out of the blue and the person can’t really explain the reason for his despair. “Am I depressed?” then becomes an inquiry that signifies that it may be crucial for an individual to see a doctor who has the authority to address his concerns. Some of the things that doctors may say about depression are as follows:
• Characteristics of depression include persistent feelings of inadequacy, a low mood and a general loss of interest in pleasurable things. People who are troubled by the disorder don’t necessarily ask themselves “Am I depressed?” but because they may not understand how they feel, it’s possible for them to not know what they should do about it. It’s important for those around them to help them by communicating and bringing to their attention the availability of health services for their distress.
• Some of the factors that affect depression are negative thinking and low self-esteem. Because of this, there are mental health facets that try to encourage individuals who may be on the verge of depression to engage in self-esteem activities that can boost this aspect of their personalities.

Julie is a certified musician/music lover. She plays the piano, the guitar and the violin marvelously, plus she sings like a nightingale and is a talented songwriter. In fact, Julie is deeply in love with music such that music has crept into almost every aspect of her life. She can only study if she’s incessantly listening to her Ipod. She is inseparable with her earphones—and she even sets her goals music.
Set goals with music? That’s right. It’s part of Music therapy. And I’m not kidding here—there is such a thing as music therapy. So what is music therapy and how do you set your goals music? Here are a few pointers:
• Music therapy is the set use of music and music-related strategies to aid and motivate a person to achieve specific, nonmusical goals. Music therapy is geared towards effecting change in the cognitive, physical, communication, social and emotional skills of a person by altering unproductive learning patterns.
• Music therapy makes use of the appeal and therapeutic characteristics of music (it captivates and maintains attention, structures time, sets up a social context, encourages movement, taps into memory and emotion, and is success oriented). It does this to establish the difference between isolation and interaction and is proven to be most helpful in situations such as depression, anger, pain, autism, stress, grief, loss, time management, motivation, growth, change, procrastination and improving communication.
• Research suggests that music can increase patient’s motivation and positive emotions.
• Music therapy tools include.
Affirmation – an integration of words, rhythm and melody that gives the person the ability to think positively by eliminating barriers to prosperity, decrease stress and generate pathways to love and confidence.
Mind quieting – helps you gain control of your thoughts, and thus maintain your control on your life.
Breathing – breath is life, its depth, smoothness, sound and rate mirror your mood.
Mantras – their magical sounds stimulate, activate, motivate and rejuvenate.
Chanting – it strengthens the mind and develops concentration, patience and determination.
Toning – it is the basic process of letting go.
• How to set your goals music?
Find a 10-15-minute worth of songs that match your present mood.
Find another 10-15-minute musical selection that mirrors your present internal state and the state you want to achieve.
Find a 10 to 15 musical selection of songs that match the desired state you want to achieve.
Record these and go over the musical selections as many times as possible.
That’s how music can help you set your goals. Goal setting can be as simple as setting your goals music but it boils down to utilizing the great power of music not just to entertain but to heal the mind, body and soul. And, remember, you don’t have to be a musician or a music lover to practice music therapy or to set your goals music — the only criterion is that you have this great burning desire to achieve success and make the most of your life.

Like any other human being, my life isn’t always sunshine and blue skies. I’ve had my share of problems, both emotional and not-so emotional. Every time I start feeling low though, I let my mind do the talking so that I can get out of the rut. But how does the mind power function? Well, it’s like this:
• The seat of our cognition is the brain. Since this is the case, the mind power controls our thoughts. When we think negatively all the time, the mind makes these negative concepts come true. These thoughts increase in strength and they begin to affect our attitudes, our perceptions and our behavior. When we think positively, the mind does the same. For good things to happen in our lives we have to constantly visualize mental images that are also good.
• The mind also governs our emotions. To avoid feeling down when life takes a hit on us, we must affirm to ourselves that troubles will come to pass. These assertions will help us feel more positive and more able to face life’s challenges. A Fun Video – Comments?
• The mind can make us sick and can also cure our pain, physical or emotional. Our emotions manifest themselves in physical ways. For example, when we are depressed, the body reacts in manners that would correspond to the depression. Hence we may lack appetite due to the sadness and eventually we might develop ulcer from not eating. Similarly, the mind can convince a sick person that he is getting better. Someone who is feverish may then be cured of the symptoms if truly believes that he isn’t sick.
• Finally, when we have things that we need to accomplish and find ourselves unable to do so, the mind power dictate to us our goal. We can do this through the help of concentration that is, focusing our thoughts, thinking of our goal and visualizing it. Afterwards, we should come up with a specific plan on how to go about achieving the said goal. The plan naturally has to be based on what’s tangible and real otherwise, all our visualization and planning will be in vain. Then we can start working on our plans. It will take effort on our part, but we need to commit to our memory that in the end, our effort will pay.
So are you feeling as if you are in a rut these days? Do you lack sleep due to vehement worries? Perhaps, you still cannot figure out how to attract that particularly hard to pin down goal. Or maybe you are in deep pain. If any of these are true to you, remember that the mind has the incredible power to change things. You can train yourself to not carry so much emotional baggage or have so many negative perceptions in your life. Think mental positive! BE mental positive! You’ll feel a lot better, you’ll see.
