My 7- and 6-year-old brothers, Anthony and Robin, were once again wreaking havoc in our home as they insisted that Fluffy, our cat, was an incarnation of some god and, thus, we need to give Fluffy all sort of offerings to appease him. Anthony and Robin were busy foraging for shoes, vegetables, Seline’s collection of DVDs, my Abnormal Psychology books, and dad’s golf clubs. Mom had enough when the boys began to throw away her collection of angel figurines, because the boys said the figurines were idolatrous.
“Anthony! Robin! Stop this nonsense or else no dessert for both of you!” my mom bellowed.
Anthony…Robin. There’s something about these names….
And then it hit me! The Internet article I read yesterday! It was about Anthony Robbins! What poked me to read that article was my astonishment of how Anthony Robbins, the co-star of Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black in my favorite romantic comedy, Shallow Hal, is now a best-selling self-help author and motivational speaker! Here are some of the highlights:
• Anthony “Tony” Robbins was born on February 29, 1960, in California. His parents divorced when he was 7 years old.
• In 1994, a medical checkup revealed that Anthony Robbins has an adenoma that became infarcted several years earlier. Because of this, his growth hormone is higher than the average adult of his age. This later on manifested in a disease called acromegaly which explains his growth spurts and his large hand and feet.
• Anthony Robbins divorced Becky, his wife of 15 years, in 2001. In June of the same year he married Bonnie Humphrey. Anthony Robbins met both his wives at seminars he was hosting.
• Anthony Robbins became determined to reroute his life after a low-point where he was struggling to pay his bills, became overweight, and ultimately LOST.
• Robbins did not only change his life but also developed a system to change the lives of others. His neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is the core of his current philosophy. His popular motivational technique is “neuroassociative conditioning”.
• Anthony Robbins delivers his message through motivational books, audio programs, seminars, coaching and philanthropic work he and his companies engage in. “Unlimited Power: The New Science of Personal Achievement” and “Awaken the Giant Within” are popular self-help books where he teaches the reader techniques to gain success, overcome fear, improve relationships and be a catalyst for lasting change.
This is the gist of who Anthony Robbins is. And, at the state of the world today, we need more Anthony Robbins. That is, men who work to change their lives yet do not stop there, as they also work to help change the lives of others. Men like Anthony Robbins tell us that the decision to change our lives is ours alone. As what Anthony Robbins said, “The only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment.”

Lisa’s mantra in life includes “money is the root of all evil”. She believes that to be materially rich is a disappointment to God and is convinced that material poverty is what everyone should do to honor God.
I beg to differ from Lisa. Although I believe that money is not everything and that the poor finds favor in God, I am also convinced that God does not want to see His people suffer just to make ends meet. He doesn’t want to see them without jobs nor does he want to witness them be buried in debt. Contrary to this, I believe that God desires for us to be successful and to prosper both physically and spiritually.
Here are some of God’s promises on prosperity and prosperity scriptures from the bible:
• God created man as His highest creation, giving him dominion over all the earth (Genesis 1:28)
• The patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were men made wealthy by God’s blessings. (Genesis 13:12:26 – 14:33:5)
• Obedience to God is rewarded with blessings including material ones. (Deuteronomy 28:1-14)
• God promised Joshua that if he will meditate on the Word of God constantly, he will traverse a prosperous and successful way (Joshua 1:7-7)
• Solomon asked God for wisdom rather than riches. God gave him both! (1 Kings 3:13)
• The Prayer of Jabez included a plea to bless Jabez and enlarge his territory. God answered his plea. (1 Chronicles 4:10)
• To enjoy the fruit of our labor is a gift from God. (Ecclesiastes 3:13:5:19)
• Seek first the kingdom of God and everything will be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
• What you give to God will be multiplied back to you. (Luke 6:38)
• John’s desire was for us to be healthy and prosperous as our soul prospers. (3 John 2)
• God saved the people to enjoy His blessings for all eternity. (Revelation 21:1 – 22:5)
Did God promise us prosperity? Yes, He did. Does He promise us prosperity? Definitely! God’s blessings abound. His blessings are upon us wherever we go and will stay even for generations after us. God does not want His people to barely survive or to shoot the moon to make ends meet or to worry endlessly about paying bills. He does not want us to suffer from the lack of our basic needs in life.
However, God’s promise on prosperity is not some kind of bribe for obedience to His laws. God’s promise on prosperity is offered to those who truly love Him, those who seek to do His will and those who obey Him with pure hearts.
Prosperity is not an end in itself—the Lord Himself will ALWAYS be the end to be sought. As much as God wants us to prosper and to be successful, He also wants us to be contented with what He has given us and have faith that He will provide for us, as He has always provided for His people in the past.

Claire may not have Professor Xavier’s intelligence or Spiderman’s spider sense, but she is our superhero. Why? It’s just that Claire has the ability of saving us from the claws of despair, of frustration, of depression, of pessimism. No, she can’t read minds or turn back the hands of time. But you know what her secret weapon is? Positive words.
Affirmations or positive words are statements that Claire would make us repeat over and over again whenever we feel down or when doing a task. She says that positive words impress on the subconscious mind and trigger it into positive action. Once consistently repeated with attention, conviction, interest and desire, these positive words can help you focus your mind, let you take charge, and invalidate pessimistic ideas. Here are a few of Claire’s positive words / phrases:
• I am healthy and happy
• Wealth is pouring into my life
• I am sailing on the river of wealth
• My body is healthy and functioning in a very good way
• I have a lot of energy
• I can do this!
• I study and comprehend fast
• My mind is calm
• I am calm and relaxed in every situation
• My thoughts are under my control
• I radiate love and happiness
• I am surrounded by love
• I have the perfect job for me
• I have a wonderful and satisfying job
• I can overcome these challenges
• I am successful in whatever I do
• There’s no stopping me!
• I am blessed and talented
• I am beautiful and intelligent
• I can be the best that I can be
• I am loved
These are only a few examples of positive words. Affirmations / positive words give you the power to state what you want in your life then give you a clear mental and emotional feel of those desires regardless of present circumstances. By being convinced of these positive words, you attract positive things in your life and repel bad and depressing thoughts. Remember that your subconscious mind accepts as true what you keep saying and will eventually attract corresponding events to your life. If negative statements fill your mind, then you will definitely not be able to do anything and eventually fail. Positive words can lend you a hand in transforming your life. So go on, think positive as if your life depends upon it! Because it really does!

You are in a financial mess – your bankbook is staggering with a less than mediocre interest rate, your credit cards are almost maxed out, and your cash spells ZERO. But your debt continues to be BIG, HUGE and INCREASING. Your love life is no different; your career has become stagnant. Your left door neighbor on the other hand seems to have a very big break in work, love and wealth. And you wonder about her luck. Your other next door neighbor tells you that she’s married to Mr. Prosperity. Mr. Prosperity indeed! You feel jealousy consuming the inner you. Put simply, you are envious. So with envy, you end up making a scheme on attracting prosperity, Mr. Prosperity.
Are you the scheming envious person mentioned above? Are you planning on attracting prosperity as well? With the global downhill direction of our economy today, I wouldn’t be surprised if you see yourself in the above given scenario. Most of us might find ourselves woeful about our financial states. We ask ourselves, why are some people luckier than us? But consider this, does the issue lie in their luck or does it lie in us? Regardless of our answer to the question posed, we still find relief when we learn that there are those who lead an existence that is worse than what we have.
Prosperity is not based on chance or faith alone, nor is it only exclusive to people who are perceived to be luck worthy or special by external forces. Each one of us actually has the ability to become prosperity magnets – and the ability to attract prosperity lies on attitude. If you find yourself becoming the person in the above statements, then maybe you can help yourself to some of these easy ways of attracting the good things in life.
• Know what you desire. Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, says that “thoughts are things” and are powerful when they are accompanied with the desire to have these thoughts translated into materials. If you are aware of what you want, chances are, whatever actions you engage in would be geared towards the direction of your desire – thus the translation of thought to material. See our article on the power of the subconscious mind for more information on this topic.
• Live your life. Living your life does not mean that you have to waste it with all those fun filled exciting activities that you do to get more out of life. It does not mean shopping sprees, luxurious vacations, or all night partying. Nor does living your life indicate being tied up with doing more work than allowed in order to prosper. Living your life simply means that you have to recognize the fact that life is a cycle of ups and downs. You win some. You lose some. When you recognize these events and when you are really aware of these events, then it would be easier for you to adapt what is called for in a certain happenstance. Then you will find yourself on the road to attracting different prosperities.

The widespread corruption and injustice that exists in today’s society can certainly make one think that “money is the root of all evil.” It wouldn’t surprise me if many believe this adage. I, on the other hand, don’t. I know that money isn’t really everything in a person’s life but material wealth isn’t so bad. After all, many of the basic necessities in life can only be obtained through money. Besides, God wants man to prosper and be successful and prosperity includes material wealth. How do I know this? The following prosperity scriptures prove my point:
• Genesis 13:2, 3. In Genesis, God promised to bless man and make a great nation for him. He also vowed to curse those who curse man and to bless all families.
• Deuteronomy 8:18. In this scripture, remembrance of the God who gives man the power to get wealth is emphasized. Wealth here is considered as a means to establish God’s covenant.
• 1 Chronicles 4:10. This part of the bible tells us of Jabez’s plea for God to bless him with abundance and how God granted his request.
• Matthew 7:7-8. This scripture encourages us to knock on heaven’s door and ask for God’s blessing because God gives to those who ask.
• 3 John 1:2. In the New Testament, John tells us of how the Father wishes, above all, for man to prosper and to be in health so that his soul may also prosper.
See? The Bible says that God desires for us to prosper materially and that He wants us to succeed. These prosperity scriptures imply that God, because He is our Loving Father, would never want us, His people, to be in peril. Like any father, God only wants the best for His children. But, even if prosperity is indicated in the aforementioned prosperity scriptures, we are still warned that prosperity is not limited to what’s financially tangible. Prosperity is encompassed by many things – physical, spiritual, mental, social and of course, financial.
To relate prosperity to money alone is very narrow-minded. Moreover, these prosperity scriptures also clarify that though God wants His people to prosper, He only promises its occurrence if we obey His commandments and if we trust Him. He also reminds us that in our search for prosperity, we have to remember to not become greedy and to be contented with what is ours because we are always given what is due us.
